The Russian Federation has lost a military advantage in the Baltic region because of the war in Ukraine - Newsweek
According to journalists, at the French Institute of International Relations (IFRI), on November 14, Professor Pavel Bayev published a report stating that the war with Ukraine had caused great damage to Russia, its army. The publication writes that for many years the Baltic countries have been the center of attention of NATO. The Alliance has strengthened its position in the region against the background of suspicion that the Russian Federation loses its advantage in the region.
Bayev believes that the Kremlin faces its ability to keep large forces on the Western flank. According to the scientist, Russia will not be able to restore its position in the Baltic region. "Russia has actually lost its position and the ability to threaten its neighbors with military power, and although for many Western politicians, these changes seem unnatural and transitional, they are perceived in Moscow as unacceptable and irreversible," the expert said.
Bayev noted that the border of Russia with the Baltic countries has historically been the main channel of cooperation with the West. "The problem is that the organizational and operational changes that occur in the Russian Armed Forces caused by failures in the Long War are unlikely to provide useful directions for further reforms," the report says. Bayev noted that the Army of Ukraine is at the same time moving forward to re -equipment for new systems and reorganization for modern war.
