"Yaky" and Cessna hunt for drones: how the Russian Federation uses light aircraft against UAV (photo)

To spread: in Russia, the practice of using light -motor and sports aircraft to combat Ukrainian drones. A number of sources report the formation of a specialized detachment "Bars-Sarmat", equipped with training-sports Yak-18T and Yak-52, as well as modernized CESSNA aircraft. On the Federal Channel "Russia 1" showed frames of combat modifications of Cessna, which installed subjural machine guns of PKT and targeting devices, which converts civil planes into improvised drones interceptors.

For the same tasks, the cabins are installed additional instruments for more accurate damage to the air goals. The plot emphasizes that the operation is conducted in specially selected squares of work, where crews operate according to the worked procedures and with less risk of friendly fire. The identification and destruction of drones, especially those operating at low altitudes (up to 150 m), remains a difficult task, emphasize "miller" analysts.

According to them, land radar can fix the following goals, but their interception is complicated by the heights of the flight and the remoteness of the UAV routes. Therefore, the decision to process light planes under "hunters" behind drones is a certain solution to this problem. The fact is that they are light maneuverable machines at low dumping speeds (about 100-140 km/h) allow you to pursue such targets and to fire. This initiative also has an economic aspect.

According to the Russian military, a decision that has long been ripe, and although the drones can successfully fight army aviation, but "to chase a heavy helicopter to intercepting the copied UAV, nevertheless, is economically unprofitable. " Commenting on the news, the leading channel Dronebomber notes that the tactics of intercepting small and slow UAVs with the help of sports aviation are not new and was partially borrowed by the Russians from the Ukrainian military.

With a positive result, such initiatives in the Russian Federation may be larger. Pilots can be sought throughout the country, and the number of units with light -motor aviation can be significantly increased. It should be noted that the most famous and massive model Cessna 172 Skyhawk has the following characteristics: in September it became known that the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation began to use sports and training planes Yak-52 to intercept Ukrainian drones.
