Barrett introduced US Army concept of SRSS rifle with original design (photo)

A key feature of weapons is the ability to use 30 mm ammunition in different configurations. Among them are armor -piercing shells and ammunition. The US Army is actively working on creating collective support systems for its platoons, which can effectively neutralize large groups of enemy, fight armored vehicles and destroy fortified positions. One of these systems is Squad Support Rifle System (SSRS), presented at the recent US Army Association (AUSA) in Washington.

The Defensa Viewers write about it. The SSRS is designed as part of the Precision Grenadier System (PGS) and is aimed at creating a compact weapon that has a high fire power. The new rifle will replace older systems, such as M320, and will offer soldiers improved accuracy and fire power through a semi -automatic power supply system. Judging by the concept, SSRS has compact size and similar to the M4 assault rifle.

The prototype is equipped with Vortex XM157 sight, which is also used in the new assault rifle of the US Army XM7. A key feature of SSRS is the ability to use 30 mm ammunition in different configurations. These weapons will allow the unit to use both standard cartridges and more powerful ammunition adapted to combat various threats. This modern weapon is capable of striking targets at a distance of 35 to more than 500 meters, including the goals of shelter.

Experts have noted the compact size and short SSRS barrel, which should provide high accuracy and the required initial speed of the shells. In addition, SSRS has a number of ergonomic features: a large trigger bracket allows you to shoot gloves, an example has a lining to reduce recoil, and a straight metal store contains about six cartridges. The sleeves are thrown through the large window on the right side of the barrel.
