According to Ursula von Der Lyen, Russia has caused losses to Ukraine, which is estimated at 600 billion euros. But the European Union has mechanisms to force the Russian Federation to pay, since 300 billion euros of reserves of the Russian Central Bank are already blocked. The Head of the European Commission Ursula von der Liaien stated that Russia should pay for its terrible crimes, including for aggression against a sovereign state.

According to her, more than 20,000 civilians and 100,000 servicemen have been killed in Ukraine today. Video of the President of the European Commission was posted on Twitter. "Russia's invasion of Ukraine has brought death, devastation and unspeakable suffering. We all remember Bucha's horrors," von Der Lyen said.

The Head of the European Commission noted that the EU continues to support the International Criminal Court and proposes to create a specialized court with the support of the UN for investigation and criminal prosecution of crimes as a result of Russian aggression. To do this, the European Commission is ready to start a dialogue with the international community to maximize support. In addition, von der Liaien voiced the amount of damage caused to Ukraine.

According to her, destruction in the country is estimated at 600 billion euros. "Russia should also pay financially for its devastation. The damage caused to Ukraine is estimated at 600 billion euros. Russia and its oligarchs should reimburse Ukraine for losses and cover the costs of resumption of the country," von Der Lyen said.

She stressed that the EU has the money to force Russia to pay, since 300 billion euros of reserves of the Russian Central Bank have been blocked and 19 billion euros of Russian oligarchs were frozen. According to the Chairman of the European Commission, a structure for managing these funds and their investment can be created in the short term.

"And after withdrawing the sanctions, these funds should be used to ensure that Russia pays full compensation for the losses caused to Ukraine," Von Der Lyen summed up. Earlier it was reported that the European Union is preparing a ninth package of sanctions against Russia. According to the President of the European Commission, Ursula von Der Lyen, the EU is working to strike in the most painful places of the Russian Federation to weaken its ability to wage war against Ukraine.
