"Must have meaning": Poland has frozen approval of new sanctions against the Russian Federation - the media
The European Union was unable to sign an anniversary sanction package that is dedicated to the anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Poland has opposed the restrictions on the import of synthetic rubber because they are not strong enough. The rest of the agreement was reached. "We do not block sanctions. We just want sanctions to make sense," said the Polish official on the conditions of anonymity.
The EU diplomat noted that supporters of sanctions have called for to completely prohibit the import of synthetic rubber from the Russian Federation, but some countries are completely dependent on it, so the commission was proposed to set the quota limit at 560 thousand metric tons. The official from Poland noted that this is ineffective because the limit exceeds current imports, and there is no point in such sanctions. The tenth package of sanctions is already rejecting other points.
There is a ban on the import of Russian diamonds, simplification of sanctions on families and the environment of oligarchs or sanctions on individual employees of the State Atomic Company "Rosatom". The commission is currently looking for a compromise, and on February 24 there will be another meeting of ambassadors from 27 European Union countries. They are expected to still sign a package of sanctions.
We will remind, on February 24 the Allies of Ukraine imposed new sanctions against the Russian Federation. New restrictions were devoted to the anniversary of the full -scale invasion of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. In particular, Russian ministers, Rosatom officials and weapons producers came under sanctions. On February 22, the NSDC was aware that Ukraine had prepared sanctions against the Russian Federation.
