After negotiations on weapons supply: Military Cyprus has been trained in Merkava tanks
According to him, since May 2023, four-week training at Merkava tanks took place. The training was held within the framework of officers of preparation of the armored corps of the Army of Defense of Israel on the basis of a 460 armored vehicle.
It should be noted that the Israeli edition of Haaretz writes that the Government of Israel is negotiating with Cyprus on the possible supply of Merkava Markava Tanks Mark II and Mark III, in exchange for which Cypriots should transfer their tanks of Russian production T-80U to Ukraine. The fact of these negotiations is confirmed by the sources of both parties, but the sources in Cyprus do not yet confirm Israeli journalists the readiness of their country to agree to the terms of this Agreement.
It is noteworthy that Haaretz emphasizes that Cyprus refers to a "European country", which Israel is ready to sell Merkava tanks. At the same time, it is not yet clear which timing is designed for this agreement, and how quickly under its terms of the Armed Forces can be obtained by "Cyprus" T-80U, because everything is still in the negotiation process. But we can so far as to start detailing the question, namely Cyprus received tanks from the Russian Federation.
