Business lost up to 800,000 men: how war and mobilization hit the labor market in Ukraine

The labor market in Ukraine has decreased by more than 2 million people due to a full -scale war. Men are taken into the army, women leave the country, and those left cannot always do men's work. Business is forced to constantly respond to military challenges. General mobilization in Ukraine reduces employers' ability to choose staff. Working hands are felt by every industry.

After the start of a full -scale Russian invasion of the company, more than 781 thousand men lost or left for the army, others left Ukraine, or forced to work informally, says Focus President of the Confederation of Employers of Ukraine Oleksiy Miroshnichenko. The statistics of the organization cover the period of 2022 and 10 months of 2023. At the same time, the departure of women from the Ukrainian labor market was almost twice as much as men - up to 1. 5 million.

This is due to the fact that women went with their children and lost their work after active fighting. As a result, the Ukrainian labor market has decreased by 2. 23 million in total. Before the war, official taxpayers were 12. 3 million, and today there are just over 10 million people left, Miroshnichenko added. "We see that women will not block labor deficiency," the expert stated. The business that closed at the beginning of the Great War with the Russian Federation has never opened.

Miroshnichenko believes that Ukrainian business is not closed.
