Volodymyr Zelenskyy: We have to make every effort to make Russian criminals, including Putin, to justice in Hague

Ukraine and partner states should make every effort to make every Russian military criminal, including Vladimir Putin, put justice for the crime of aggression. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated this during a speech to the parliaments of the PACE countries in Strasbourg. The Head of State thanked the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe for the support of Ukraine and the adoption of almost 30 resolutions.

"Your clear political position on recognizing Russia's actions by a crime of aggression, supporting the fair end of the war and rejecting any attempt to legitimize the Russian occupation of our Ukrainian territories has helped to form a political reaction of all Europe," the President said. Volodymyr Zelensky recalled that it was Europe who created mechanisms that made it possible to hold responsibility of aggressors and international criminals.

In particular, it is the Nuremberg Tribunal and the International Criminal Tribunal against the former Yugoslavia. The President noted that it was in the PACE that the first called for the creation of a tribunal about the crime of Russian aggression, and now this idea is gaining real support from partner countries in Europe and beyond.

The Head of State thanked the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, who supported the decision to create a special tribunal on a crime of aggression against Ukraine. “Now we have to take real steps to work. And this requires strong political and legal cooperation to provide justice for every Russian military criminal. Including Putin. And this is the path that we have to go - to the true accusations and true sentences, ”the Head of State emphasized.
