Bypassing sanctions: the Lithuanian prosecutor's office is asked to investigate the import of luxury cars in the Russian Federation

According to journalists, at least 130 cars out of 477 were registered in Russia. Experts do not rule out that luxury transport could be imported through third countries. The LTG Cargo cargo carrier, which is part of the Lithuanian Railways, appealed to the Prosecutor General's Office to investigate in connection with likely violations of sanctions related to exporting luxury cars to importing countries. About it reports the newspaper "Novaya Gazeta. Baltia".

As a result of the internal investigation, it was found that among 477 transport vehicles for 9 customers, at least 130 cars were registered in the Russian Federation or got there through the mediation of third countries. Among the car transported were such well -known brands as Mercedes, Porsche Cayenne, Cadillac and others. The company was able to find out that four companies participated in this scheme, and the first suspicious cases were detected in March 2023.

The company believes that cars, according to the documents are intended for delivery to Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Georgia, actually entered the Russian Federation. Based on these data, LTG Cargo appealed to the country's Prosecutor General's Office to investigate. LTG Cargo Chairman Egle Shime noted that since December 1 this year, the company will suspend carrying luxury cars worth more than 50,000 euros across Lithuania.

In Latvia, as it became known at the end of October, the process of confiscation of cars with Russian registration and their further transfer to Ukraine will begin. According to the Latvian Parliament, cars in Russian numbers will be able to participate in road traffic in the territory of the state only in transit for 24 hours. We will remind, on September 24, Latvia declared intentions to build a strong barrier on the border with Belarus.
