Armed Forces use a rare hybrid based on Abrams tank: what is known about the M1150 ABV machine (video)
Thus, the Armed Forces became the world's second forces after the US Army, which own this equipment. This was reported on November 3 by The Forbes David Ex. The article says that ABV has arrived in Ukraine "unnoticed" because nothing was discussed in the official list of the US military aid package. The car probably came with Abrams tanks no later than mid -October.
The M1150 assault machine is a new approach to laying ways through obstacles that uses the power of two systems to ensure maximum functionality. This hybrid combines the traditional plow system and the mechanism of a linear charge, created by the M58 Miclic system. This unique combination enables the machine to undermine passages in a minefield of about 100-150 m. However, unlike Miclic, which uses only charges and depends on the M113, M1150 ABV armored personnel carrier.
First of all, the machine is characterized by a higher level of protection, which enables it to turn from a simple demining means to a terrible assault tank. This opportunity makes it extremely effective in combating the fortified positions of the enemy. Thus, M1150 ABV, designed primarily for the disposal of mines and explosives, is a unique US military apparatus. This specialized machine, equipped with a mine plow and linear charges, is built on the basis of a reliable M1 Abrams chassis.
These heavy machines weighing 72 tons and 12 m long are, in fact, a M1 Abrams configuration with 1500 hp engine. However, the technique is armed only with a machine gun of the 50th caliber. A key feature is the installation in the frontal part of a powerful plow of 4. 6 m wide, fortified with metal skis, which allow it to move smoothly on the soil, and almost 3200 kg of explosive ammunition charged. Machines have a complex linear undermining system (LDCS) that runs missiles with C-4 explosives.
They fly up to 140 m forward, safely set fire to hidden explosive devices. Thus, a route is created to ensure safe movement of troops and equipment. In practice, ABV applied the US Marine Corps, which first used this machine during Moshhtarak's operation against the Taliban in Afghanistan 2010. Earlier it was reported that according to Newsweek observers, the Abrams tanks provided to Ukraine by Americans are unlikely to bring significant successes in the promotion.
