Fines and sanctions for Russian music: Language Ombudsman came up with new punishments (video)

To spread: Against those who listen to music in Russian, effective sanctions should be applied. The violators of language legislation "should be painful", according to the State Language Commissioner. Language Ombudsman Taras Kremin said this on the air of Kyiv24. The police, in his opinion, should not only carry out information and explanatory work with those who listen to music in Russian. Such people need to apply effective sanctions.

"It should be painful for those who fundamentally continue to violate national legislation. For this purpose, political will and the necessary tools should be required," the official said. The ombudsman also noted that a specific body in this area should work in Ukraine. It is necessary to clearly determine the amount of fines for listening to the content in Russian. It should be noted that in Ukraine, for the fact of listening to music in Russian, there is no responsibility in Russian.

Punishments are imposed for its public reproduction in cafes, shops or other establishments in the form of a fine of UAH 170. The responsibility is the institution, not the listener. Back in August 2023, a bill No. 9547 appeared in the Verkhovna Rada, which increases the amount of penalties to 8 500 UAH for the first violation, and up to UAH 25,500 for repeated. Deputies have not yet considered him in the session hall.
