Uncomfortable situation: The ISW explained the purpose of Putin's trip to Azerbaijan

Official topics of conversations of Moscow and Baku relate to energy and worries about Russian -speaking, Roszmi explained. In fact, the main reason for Vladimir Putin's foreign trip is to diminish the role of breakthrough in Kursk, analysts say. Russian President Vladimir Putin decided to demonstrate the Russians outstanding diplomatic efforts during a breakthrough in the Kursk region. The visit of the Kremlin leader to Azerbaijan should show that there were minor events that will soon end.

Analysts of the Institute of War (ISW) in the report, published on August 19, were told about the reasons for Putin's trip to Baku. Analysts noted that the two-day trip of the Russian President fell in the midst of the Armed Forces Kursk Operation-on August 18-19. This trip was filled with "small details" that poured into the information space.

For example, they told about 300 Russian -speaking schools working in Azerbaijan, or "historical involvement" of the Russian Federation in the events in the Caucasus and others. The purpose of such noise, among other things, corresponds to the Kremlin's preliminary efforts to "diminish the scale and influence of the Ukrainian invasion", the report is said.

In general, ISW has identified three reasons that could explain Putin's visit to Azerbaijan: "To distract from an uncomfortable situation in Russia, satuishing the information space with a demonstration of global diplomatic attraction and the expedited Kremlin's success," - wrote on the ISW portal. In Roszma, TASS and Azerbaijani media told Putin's visit to Baku, which lasted on August 18-19.

Together with the head of the Kremlin, Azerbaijan visited a whole delegation of the Russians, headed by the Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. The official goal of the visit is energy cooperation, support for Russian -speaking, mediation of the Russian Federation in conflict with Armenia.

"The basis of these relations are the principles of equality, taking into account each other's interests and, of course, close human cultural bonds that unite our peoples for centuries," Putin said while communicating with President Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. Earlier, Focus wrote about some features of relations between the Russian Federation and Azerbaijan.

For example, the units of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation stood on the border of Karabakh, while this Armenian enclave existed within the country. In October 2022, Baku launched a short -term war against Armenian armed formations and announced the abolition of an enclave autonomy. At the same time, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation did nothing for the locals, although it had such obligations in accordance with the agreements between Moscow, Baku and Yerevan.

In May 2024, ISW analysts listened to the interview of President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko and concluded that the Russian Federation and Belarus helped Azerbaijan in the elimination of Karabakh. In the summer of 2024, energy experts explained that gas from Azerbaijan can fill the gas pipeline in Ukraine, which is planned to be covered for Russian gas. We remind that on August 19, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced control of the Armed Forces over 1 200 square meters.
