How the territory of Ukraine changed during the invasion of the Russian Federation and the Counter -offensive of the Armed Forces (maps)

The first card is as of March 9, 2022, a few weeks after the start of a full -scale invasion. It is evident that the Kremlin troops were able to quickly capture a large part of the Black Sea coast of Ukraine, but then the battle for Mariupol was still lasting, and the occupation group continued to equalize with the ground a besieged port city.
On the map you can also see how Russian troops went from Belarus to the direction of Kiev. On the same map in a few months there are two main events. The Putin troops failed to capture Kiev and displaced a blow to the East, and the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation were also completely withdrawn from the Northern Front. The bloody battle for Mariupol also ended. Six months later, there were several key changes in the territorial picture.
During the counter-offensive of the Armed Forces on September 7-11, 2022, control over 544 settlements of Kharkiv region (about 3000 square km) managed to return. In the first days of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, they were still present in Kherson. The Ukrainian counter -offensive began in late August, and on November 9, the Russian troops were already ordered to leave Kherson across the Dnieper. Bakhmut also appeared on the map, which will fall into news headlines in April 2023.
The Bakhmut battle, in fact, began in the summer of 2022, in the winter of the next year the city was one of the main places of huge losses of Russian troops. Control over it was not so much strategically as symbolically significant. The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation captured the city mainly by the efforts of the Wagner PEC. On the October map there are relatively few differences from April.
Defense forces tried to undergo multilayered defense: mines, trenches, which are rushed by the entire line of advanced, etc. In the south of Ukraine, the Armed Forces tried to go to the coast and divide the Russian group in two. Some progress was made in the area of the robot, where one of the most powerful defense fortifications of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation was located. In the East, Ukraine has made an attempt to return Bakhmut for the second time.
According to journalists, it really made some split, since the Kremlin chairman Vladimir Putin sought to keep a single city that the Russian army won over a long period of war. And so far it holds it. It should be reminded that on October 23, British military analyst Michael Clark believes that Ukraine has two weeks of good weather in Ukraine to achieve a breakthrough in a counter -offensive. However, surprises for the occupation group are possible in winter.
