A very rare phenomenon. A deformed "double rainbow" above the ground was recorded from space (photo)

The photo was taken by a satellite near the unrelated chain of rare eddies in the clouds above the Mexican Island of Guadelup. Today, over 7,000 satellites are circling above the ground, and in total, people have launched more than 11,000 satellites into the Earth's orbit. Researchers use them for different purposes: some monitor the temperature, others - contamination, others - the amount of emissions and heat that the planet sends into space.

Sometimes scientists are also able to make incredibly rare frames using satellites in the orbit of Earth, Live Science writes. So it was this time. In 2012, scientists used the NASA satellite to take a picture of an unusual "double rainbow" next to the unrelated chain of rare whirlwinds in clouds above the Mexican Island of Guadelup. In focus. Subscribe not to miss the latest and most intrusive news from the world of science! In fact, this rare phenomenon is not a rainbow, but only a similar phenomenon known as glory. It is known that Gloria appeared above the Mexican island at the moment when Susha gave birth to a separate series of unusual cloud eddies. Note that glory is multicolored light shows like rainbows, but they have a key difference.

Rainbows are formed by combining reflection and refraction, when sunlight is reflected from drops of falling rain and divided into different wavelengths. Instead, glory is formed by reverse diffraction - when light is reflected directly from even smaller drops of water in clouds or fog. As a result of glory, only exactly opposite the Sun, at the so -called antisexual point.

NASA researchers say that Gloria, etched in the photo, appeared next to the island of Guadelope in the Pacific, about 1240 km from the west coast of Mexico. The length of glory, according to scientists, was 480 kilometers - in the photo it seems that these are two separate glory, which go in parallel, but in fact they are one. The photo also shows a line of ideal clouds, known as virach von Karman.

It is known that these structures are formed when clouds fall into the air flow, disturbed by a high array of land, most often over the ocean. Scientists believe that the violation was caused by a volcanic mountain raster in the north of Guadelupe. Despite the fact that glory and amazing vortices are visible only through layered-boil clouds formed in this part of the Pacific Ocean, scientists say that their appearance is not interconnected at all.

By the way, glory looks like concentric multicolored circles when looking at them from the ground or from the air. According to the researchers, this is due to the fact that diffrared light is emitted outwards, reflecting back to observation. Interestingly, even from the Gloria space, circles often look, but in this case, the forms of glory were completely different. It is known that the satellite took a photo when he scanned the surface of the earth with stripes.

Thus, in the image, the iridescent strips are cross -sections of one and the same round glory, which was twice scanned with a satellite. As a result, in the photo we see parallel stripes that go on both sides of the satellite trajectory: from left to right the rainbow on the left in the image goes from red to blue, and the rainbow goes from blue to red. Earlier, Focus wrote that an unexpected phenomenon was found in the sky of a distant planet: previously seen only on earth and Venus.
