Ukraine conducted secret negotiations with the Russian Federation in 2022: Umerov revealed details

In an interview with The Washington Post, the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Rustem Umerov noted that these secret consultations led to the creation of a humanitarian corridor for evacuation of 400,000 Ukrainians, exchange of prisoners of war and the conclusion of a "grain agreement". Umerov also confirmed that the United States was aware of these contacts. In 2022, Ukraine conducted secret indirect negotiations with Russia through international partners.

This was announced by the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Rustem Umerov in an interview with the American newspaper The Washington Post. The head of the defense department stressed that these negotiations had several directions and that the United States "were always aware of" contacts, since the Ukrainian side regularly consulted on all issues.

"US officials confirmed that secret negotiations took place in 2022, when Russia was publicly threatened with the use of tactical nuclear weapons," the publication added. According to Umerov, the results of these secret negotiations included the creation of a humanitarian corridor, which allowed 400,000 Ukrainians to leave the territory occupied by Russia.

In addition, prisoners of war, political prisoners and wounded soldiers were exchanged, as well as a "grain agreement" that resumed export routes of agro -production in the Black Sea. In response to the question of whether such behind -the -scenes negotiations are ongoing, Umerov noted that the humanitarian path remains open.
