Cryptocurrency in the world has changed the face. Now it is pro -Russian crowdfunding

Million cryptocurrency donations are growing in the Russian military. You can track, stop - no. The Binance Cryptocurrency Investigation Team found that, with the beginning of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, groups of people who support the Russian military raised in cryptocurrency an amount exceeding $ 4 million.

According to the analysis of CHAINALYSIS, Elliptic and TRM Labs, and Binance, funding recipients are paramilitary groups that supply ammunition and equipment, as well as military contractors and weapons. This flow of funds, which is often directed to groups under international sanctions, does not weaken and even tends to increase.

However, despite the ability to track these funds, freeze or block them is extremely difficult - primarily due to the activities of unregulated or sub -cryptocurrency exchanges that have not introduced KYC and AML procedures that provide for identification information (most of them are located in Russia). The largest hub for fundraising was the pro -Russian group known as Moo Veche. The donations of the organization reached $ 1. 7 million.

Binance has found other organizations that raise money through cryptocurrency in Telegram - for example, pro -Russian nationalist groups "Save Donbass" and Rear, as well as the Russian manufacturer of weapons Lobayev, who directly collected donations on the platform. Another nationalist group, known as Romanov Light, has raised $ 330,000 for additional weapons equipment, flashlights and armored plastic for Russian special forces. Binanca is the largest cryptocurrency exchange.

It processes a tremendous number of cryptocurrency transactions between users. Transactions related to probable illegal activity and, as a consequence, are blocked, are calculated by thousands. In addition to their own resources, the detection of suspicious Binance transactions, among others, uses Elliptic Ltd. , Chainalysis, TRM Labs. And to monitor fiat transactions, the company launches new monitoring tools using international financial databases.

Ukrainian law enforcement officers also have experience in investigating illegal activities using cryptocurrencies. Recently, as part of the global training program for law enforcement officers, which was created in Binance to help law enforcement and prosecutors around the world to identify financial and cybercrime, Binance has conducted trainings for the SBU, APMA and Cyber Police of Ukraine. At the same time, the issue of cryptocurrency legalization in Ukraine is still open.
