If the Kremlin twists the valve. Transit stop will not create problems for the GTS of Ukraine, but it will be difficult - macacon

The absence of transit will not bring unsolved problems for the GTS of Ukraine, though it will be difficult. According to the head of the GTS operator of Ukraine Sergei Makakon, the absence of transit does not carry unsolved technical problems for the Ukrainian gas transportation system. He stated this in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine, emphasizing that it will be difficult.

Video of the Day "We have various scenarios of actions and decisions that will be used during the heating season, depending on the situation," Makakon said. He stressed that the Ukrainian GTS had already been reversed in 2006, 2009 and 2019, when Gazpro stopped the transit.

According to the head of the GTS operator, gas transportation volumes have decreased significantly, which makes it possible to reserve it necessary to switch in the process of gas transportation, or to use non -standard solutions to provide gas consumers and perform transit duties.

He added that if a political decision is made at the Kremlin level to terminate transit in the EU through Ukraine, there is a risk that the Ukrainian gas transportation infrastructure will be partially destroyed by the aggressor. This, in turn, will create problems for transporting gas within Ukraine, because GTS is used for both transit and local transportation.

Makogon stressed that methane transit is constantly decreasing, and after the introduction of the embargo on gas and completely stopped. The company insists that in order to preserve the Ukrainian infrastructure, the last cubic meter of Russian gas should be transported to Europe through the Ukrainian route, not through the north stream. "This will happen by 2024 or later - depends on the position and readiness of the EU countries," Makakon said.
