In the State Duma of the Russian Federation suggested to return the execution for "traitors of the Motherland"

MP Andriy Kolesnyk believes that an exceptional punishment measure should be used for citizens who "work against Russia". On February 6, a member of the Duma Committee of the Russian Federation on transport and development of transport infrastructure suggested to cancel the moratorium on the execution for those who became a "traitor to Russia".

In an interview with the Internet edition "Podmoskov's Today" he specified-despite the fact that the decision to remove the moratorium is made not by the State Duma of the Russian Federation, but by the court, many parliamentarians are inclined to do so. In his reasoning about those who left and criticized Russia and whom Kolesnyk called "traitors to the Motherland", he admitted that although some of them received punishment under the law, he would personally make more.

"For betrayal, this exceptional punishment can be used . . . This is my opinion, though perhaps I will express it on parliament. If a person has committed some serious crimes against Russia, then the sentences may be others," Kolesnik said. According to him, those citizens who "work against Russia" are wage. And such actions under current conditions need to be reacting accordingly. "When a person works against Russia, it is called an information war. In some cases, it is more serious than weapons.

Evil tongues are more frightening than a gun . . . Now we have a moratorium on death penalty, although in our legislation it exists," the deputy said. At the same time, the Chairman of the Committee of the Federation Council for Constitutional Legislation Andriy Klimas, commenting on the words of Kolesnik stated that he should not pay attention to his reasoning. "Don't pay attention. The flow of consciousness," the senator wrote in the Telegram channel.

Talks about cancellation in the Russian Federation of moratorium on the execution periodically appear in the information field. We will remind, on November 29, 2022, the head of the Russian Constitutional Court Valery Zorkin stated that "intense historical time" is not a sufficient reason for introducing the highest punishment. According to him, in order to change the situation in this matter in Russia, in fact, one must adopt a new constitution.
