More than 60 Germans involved in extremism went to war in Ukraine - Welt
This was reported on July 29 by the German edition of Welt. 39 people had signs that they left Germany with the intention of participating in hostilities. Of these, 27 people were tuned and 12 people supported Ukraine. At the same time, German security authorities have information that these volunteers participated in hostilities.
According to security forces, most of them are carriers of so -called "foreign ideology" - as a rule, these are people who, without being ethnic Germans, commit politically motivated crimes. Meanwhile, the authors of the publication point out that in fact the number of volunteers from Germany who is fighting in Ukraine is higher.
In addition, there are a number of former military personnel who have previously been trained in the Bundesver and who entered the international legion within the Ukrainian army. In this regard, the question of the legality of these people in armed conflict arises. According to the anonymous representative of the Federal Ministry of Justice, there is no punishment for participation in hostilities in the territory of Ukraine.
This applies to cases where they act not as mercenaries, but as servicemen of regular armed forces or volunteer corps and militias. However, this does not protect them from investigating possible military crimes, the authors of the material noted. At the same time, they added that the Prosecutor General did not want to comment on whether the relevant investigations were being conducted on the combatants who left the country.
Commenting on the position of the prosecutor's office, the Bundestag deputy Roderich Kizetter called for an appropriate investigation, since the combatants could systematically participate in war crimes and human rights crimes. "Persons who voluntarily join the Russian armed forces or terrorist groups to participate in invasion of Ukraine should be held accountable after returning to Germany," the politician said.
