Housing for the victims from the war: what the UN and Ukraine agreed

The agreements between Ukraine and the UN should facilitate access to housing resumption for people whose homes have been damaged or destroyed during the war. The Ministry of Community Development, Territories and Infrastructure of Ukraine and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCB - UNHCR) signed a memorandum of cooperation, the press service of the Ukrainian Ministry reports.

The Memorandum will launch the Ukraine -Home platform to facilitate access to housing resumption for people whose homes have been damaged or destroyed during the war. According to Viceremer-Minister Alexander Kubrakov, as of the fall of 2022, more than 2. 4 million Ukrainians have damaged or destroyed housing.

"Therefore, a memorandum will allow international partners, business, humanitarian organizations, donors and MFIs to integrate information about damage, demanded and provided assistance to restore and provide housing," Kubrakov added. The key initiatives of the project are a transparent and fair compensation for damaged and destroyed housing, the mechanism of which is determined by Bill 7198.

"Secondly-on the basis of the mechanism" is supporting "we plan to provide direct assistance to citizens for housing restoration, and thirdly-construction hubs, decentralized. that will keep pre-purchased building materials to ensure urgent need for urgent repairs, "-said Viceremier-Minister.

In addition, the memorandum envisages that Ukraine and the UN will cooperate on the following issues: it has become known that some Ukrainians may deprive the compensation for the housing destroyed as a result of the war. At the same time, they want to grant a priority right to compensation for combatants, as well as mobilized, but without UBD status.
