Ombudsman told how many prisoners of war, the Russians shot in the last year

According to Dmitry Lubinets, in previous years the number of Ukrainian prisoners of war was executed by the Russians. Most of the executions are shootings close. Since the beginning of 2024, Russian invaders have executed at least 109 Ukrainian prisoners of war. Dmitry Lubinets, the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for Human Rights, stated this in the telelorphone. "In 2024 alone, it was officially confirmed that the Russians shot 109 Ukrainian prisoners of war," Lubinets said.

He stressed that these are officially confirmed cases, many of them were shootings close. According to him, in the previous years of a full -scale invasion of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, 177 cases of execution of Ukrainian defenders by the occupiers were recorded. "The Russians often violate the rights of prisoners of war. We received this information because of the possibilities of our intelligence and law enforcement agencies.

Unfortunately, I could not publish and publicly show these examples of cynical violation of international humanitarian law," Lubinets said. The murder of prisoners of war is a gross violation of the Geneva conventions and qualifies as a serious international crime. The Geneva Conventions are four independent international treaties created in 1949.

Of these, the third convention concerns the treatment of prisoners of war, in particular, it is prohibited by murder, torture and abuse of prisoners of war. "Any illegal act or omission on the part of a captive state that causes death or poses a serious threat to the health of a prisoner of war under its protection, prohibited and will be considered as a serious violation of this Convention.

In particular, no prisoners of war It can be subjected to physical cripples or medical or scientific experiments of any nature that are not justified by the need for medical, dental or inpatient treatment of prisoners of war and are not carried out in its interests, "-said in Article 13 of the Convention. Similarly, prisoners of war should always be protected, including against acts of violence or intimidation, as well as from the image and curiosity of the public.

We will remind, on November 5 the press service of the Office of the Prosecutor General reported that during the offensive on the city of Selidovo, on October 23, three captured Ukrainian fighters were captured, and on November 1, three more captured soldiers of the Armed Forces were killed during the storming in the Pokrovsky direction.
