He graduated from the Faculty of Economics of Kharkiv State University. He worked as a junior researcher at the Department of Planning of the National Economy of Kharkiv State University (1987-1990), correspondent, editor of the Department of the Dip Dip (1990-1992), editor-in-chief of Kharkiv-News (1992) (1992-1998), Deputy Head (1991) and consultant (2001) of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine, Presidential Presidential President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma (1998-2001).
Secretary of the Council for Information Policy under the President of Ukraine (2001-2002). Member of the National Council on Television and Radio Broadcasting (2002-2003). Since 2003-CEO of Interfax-Ukraine. The Cavalier of the Order of Merit III (2022), the Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise of the 5th degree (2020). Since 2010 - Honored Journalist of Ukraine. Also, Alexander Martynenko, under the pseudonym, Alexander Makarov cooperated with the edition "Mirror of the Week".
