The painting lost during the Second World War bought a supporter of Lukashenko: now she is in Ukraine

To spread: The National Art Museum of Ukraine returned the picture "Women's portrait" of Vladislav Galimsky, stolen during the Second World War. Its return was made possible by the joint efforts of museums and the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine. This was reported in the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications. The cloth was first found in 2018 at Stuttgart. After reconciliation with archival photos, the museum confirmed its origin and turned to Interpol.

Subsequently, the external intelligence service of Ukraine found that the painting was bought by a Belarusian businessman, close to the Lukashenko regime, who deliberately purchased the stolen exhibit. The negotiations with him lasted for several years and ended successfully - the painting managed to return. "Women's Portrait" became the first work from the collection of the National Art Museum of Ukraine, which was restored after export during the Second World War.

It will be exhibited in the museum for a month. The returned picture is supplemented by the digital reconstruction of the 1925 exhibition "Ukrainian Portrait of the XVII -XX Century", where the work of Galimsky was first introduced to the public. Last year, Ukrainian border guards found a picture that disappeared in the Netherlands 19 years ago.
