Alexander Syrsky was born on July 26, 1965 in the village of Novels of Vladimir region (RSFSR). He graduated from the Moscow Higher General Command College, the Armed Forces Academy and the National Academy of Defense of Ukraine.

He was also the commander of the 72nd OMB and in 2013 became the first deputy chief of the Main Command Center of the Armed Forces. Syrsky was the chief of the ATO headquarters from the beginning of hostilities in eastern Ukraine. In the winter of 2015, he was one of the main commanders of the ATO forces during the fighting for Debaltseve. In addition, he was awarded the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytsky III degree for fighting at the Debaltsev bridgehead.

In 2016, he headed the Joint Operational Headquarters of the Armed Forces, which coordinated the operational actions of various Ukrainian military in the Donbass. In 2017, he became the commander of the entire ATO. Oleksandr Syrsky was the commander of the United Operational Staff of the Armed Forces from May to August 2019, while he received the position of commander of the Armed Forces of the Armed Forces on August 5, 2019.

Syrsky has been the commander of the defense of Kiev since the beginning of the Russian full -scale invasion. Thanks to his organizational abilities, two rings of defense of Kiev were created - one in the external suburbs and the other within the city.
