For the breakthrough of Russian air defense: the Armed Forces showed ADM-160 on Su-27 (video)
The Su-27 frames are shown with two MALD, fixed to the inner points of the suspension. Previously, such pylons were used for French managed bombs Hammer and American JDAM-ER, confirming the adaptation of Ukrainian aircraft to Western weapons. According to the War Zone observers, the first evidence of the use of MALD in Ukraine appeared in the spring of 2023, when the fragments of the system were found in Luhansk region and later in Kherson region.
Since then, false goals have become an important element of the tactics of Ukrainian Air Force, providing cover for winged missiles Storm Shadow and Scalp EG. Mald (Miniature Air-Launched Decoy) is a small rocket system designed to distract and disorient the enemy air defense. Unlike shock ammunition, it does not destroy targets directly, but can take on the enemy's fire, creating conditions for successful use of other weapons.
Each Mald is equipped with a small turbojet engine that allows you to fly on a programmed route or hang in the area of targets, creating a noticeable radar. This significantly increases the efficiency of blows to Russian facilities, reducing the likelihood of intercepting the main rocket. Ukrainian pilots say that Mald is used in connection with the anti-radiolocating missiles AGM-88 Harm, as well as with the winged Storm Shadow and Scalp EG missiles.
