Russian Su-30 is forced to use expensive PKR X-31 in the Black Sea: what is the reason (video)
Prior to that, the Russian SU-30 used cannon weapons and cassette airplanes without resorting to high-precision missile weapons. Changing tactics is probably related to aviation losses. In May 2025, one of the SU-30 was shot down in the Black Sea by AIM-9 rocket launched from the Ukrainian sea drone Magura 7. And earlier, on December 31, 2024, another sea drone with the help of the P-73 rocket destroyed two Russian Mi-8 helicopters.
After these incidents, Russia limited the use of helicopters and moved to the use of aircraft from safe range. This increased the use of FPV-ovary and UAVs of aircraft type, but their effectiveness is limited due to low range. Now, against boats and sea drones of the Armed Forces, the Russians are forced to use expensive managed missiles, which indicates an increase in the threat and vulnerability of Russian aviation when approaching the area of Ukrainian drones.
