Share: On the night of Thursday, October 16, the Russian authorities reported a massive drone attack on seven regions of the country. A fire broke out at an electrical substation in the Volgograd region, and some settlements were left without electricity. The Russian authorities announced an attack by drones on seven regions of the Russian Federation. Restrictions on the reception and departure of aircraft were temporarily introduced at the airports of Volgograd, Samara, Saratov and Tambov.

This was reported by the Russian mass media and Telegram channels, including Astra. The governor of the Volgograd region, Andriy Bocharov, said that the air defense forces allegedly repelled a mass drone attack on the region's energy infrastructure facilities. "Air defense forces repelled a mass attack by unmanned aerial vehicles on energy infrastructure facilities in the Volgograd region.

As a result of the fall of the UAV wreckage in the Novomykolaiv district, a fire was recorded on the territory of the Balashovskaya transmission line substation," Bocharov said. According to him, the fire is already being eliminated. "Repair services are restoring electricity supply to the settlements adjacent to the substation. There were no damage to residential buildings and no casualties," he added.

The governor of the Voronezh region Oleksandr Gusev also reported on the consequences of the attack. "According to preliminary data, there are no casualties or damage. Several settlements remain without electricity during the emergency works that began after repelling an UAV attack in the neighboring region," the official said. Residents of Saratov heard numerous explosions at night, according to the Astra Telegram channel.

In the morning, the Ministry of Defense of Russia announced that during the night air defense equipment allegedly destroyed 51 Ukrainian drones. According to the official data of the department, 12 drones were shot down over Saratov Oblast, 11 over Volgograd Oblast, 8 over Rostov Oblast, 4 each over Bryansk Oblast and Voronezh Oblast, 3 over Belgorod Oblast and 1 over Kursk Oblast.

In addition, 6 drones were allegedly destroyed over the territory of the occupied Crimea, and one more over the waters of the Black and Azov seas. We will remind you that in recent months, the Russian authorities regularly report on drone attacks on energy and military facilities in the border regions of the country. The Ukrainian side traditionally does not comment on such statements. As Focus reported, the day before drones attacked two super-powerful refineries of the Russian Federation.
