Colt for Canada's Army: What is known about a new version of C8A4 assault rifle (photo)

According to the experts, the rifle combines the internal components of the C8 carbine, which has proven itself in operation and the M-Lok rail interface. At the CANSEC 2024 exhibition, Colt Cz Group, Colt Canada, has introduced a new C8 - C8A4 carbine version. This compact assault rifle is seen as a possible future configuration of the assault rifle for the Canadian Armed Forces under the Canadian Modular Assault Rifle (CMAR). This was reported on June 3 by Army Recognition.

C8A4 is a modular rail rifle (MRR) of the AR-15 family, which combines the components of the C8 carbine tested and the M-LoK rail system. The carbine barrel 295 mm long is made by the method of cold forging and has a chrome coating, which helps to increase the service life and improve the accuracy of firing. The construction of the barrel involves the free course of the barrel, which allows to minimize vibration and increase accuracy during shots.

The rifle works according to the scheme of a direct gas pipe mechanism with a reinforced gas block. This provides reliable automation operation and reduces the likelihood of clogging the mechanism during intensive operation. C8A4 is equipped with a single -stage unregulated combat trigger, which provides a stable and intended effort on the trigger, which is important for the accuracy of firing.

Thanks to the long guide Stanag 4694 at the upper part and lateral interfaces of M-LOK with five mounting grooves, a strong monolithic upper body allows you to securely attach different optics and other accessories, providing a better weight distribution at the same time. For convenience of use in different conditions, the carbine has an ambidexster fuse lever - this allows to control the weapons equally effectively and with the left hand.
