The Kremlin's plan did not work: Turkmenistan did not want to pump Russian gas to China

In Moscow, they wanted to supply more gas to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, and to give extra volumes to China. But in Turkmenistan, without enthusiasm, they perceived such an idea. Turkmenistan's authorities refuse to connect Russia to the pipeline that gas is supplied to China. On August 12, 2023, the Turkmen Ministry of Foreign Affairs was stated.

The report states that the Kremlin's plans to expand the "gas union", which was declared in Moscow at the end of 2022, inviting Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, are unacceptable in view of Russia's own interests. "The existing scheme of distribution of gas supplied to China, plans to expand the composition of the participants of the Project of the Turkmenistan - China - China," - emphasized in the department.

In Moscow, they wanted to supply more gas to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, and the extra volumes that occur in these countries are pumped to China. Turkmenistan's Foreign Ministry also added that any changes in the schemes and volumes of deliveries should be consistent with Ashhabad, but there were no negotiations.

It should be noted that Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan together supply gas to the PRC pipeline "Turkmenistan - China", the construction of the Turkmengas State and Chinese company CNPC. The gas pipeline pumps 55 billion cubic meters of "blue fuel" annually, with 40 billion cubic meters of Turkmen gas, and the remains are obtained by Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.

Currently, there are three branches of the gas pipeline, which are supplied from the Turkmen deposits in the east and southeast of the country in Turkmenistan's Foreign Ministry that any changes in the schemes and volumes of deliveries should be agreed with Ashgabat, but such negotiations have not been conducted. We will remind that in 2022 Europe and the countries of "Great Seven" limited the supply of oil and gas from Russia.

Therefore, in 2023, the oil and gas revenues of the Russian Federation decreased by 52%. It should be noted that Moscow now supplies its gas to China by the Siberia Power Gas Pipeline, but its capacity is limited by volumes of 16 billion cubic meters a year.
