Norway will receive 54 LEOPARD 2A8 NOR tanks: what is the peculiarity of modification

The Norwegian Army will receive a tank with domestic modifications that will make Leopard 2A8 even better. The German manufacturer Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) and Norway Ministry of Defense have agreed on the supply of 54 Leopard 2A8 tanks in the NOR version. About it reports Army Recognition. The parties have signed a supply contract in March, but now they have agreed to specify Leopard 2. The Norwegian modification will have all the features that 2A8 that KMW is produced for Germany.

Among the main features of the basic version of Leopard 2A8 is a complex of active protection of Trophy, the booking of the last generation and more convenient interfaces. Norway will receive additional functions in the form of an integrated Cortex system from the local manufacturer Kongsberg. It is responsible for connection with other machines on the battlefield. Norwegian Leopard 2 will also have an increased maximum speed of 70 km/h, better suspension and hydraulic shock absorbers.

Together, these technologies should make the tank even more maneuvering and stable during the passage of complex areas. Machine supply is expected from 2026 to 2031. The arrangements also allow you to buy 18 more tanks. They will produce basic combat tanks with Rheinmetall. The concert will produce the L55A1 gun, fire control technology and part of the sensors. It is worth noting that according to Military Balance 2023, the Norwegian army now has 52 LEOPARD 2A4 tanks, 16 of which are stored.
