To reduce internal criticism: British intelligence told how Putin was fighting for dissenting Russians

According to the British Ministry of Defense, Vladimir Putin wants to silence the internal critics of the war against Ukraine. For a long time, the authorities in Russia suppressed dissent. Following a full -scale invasion of Ukraine, these actions were even more strengthened to suppress criticism through hostilities. This was reported by the UK Ministry of Defense on Twitter on February 23.

On the latter, it is noted that on February 14, Russian President Vladimir Putin approved a law that allows for the confiscation of property for the distribution of probably "false information" on the actions of the Russian Armed Forces. According to British intelligence, the main purpose of this event is to suppress internal criticism in connection with hostilities against Ukraine.

Two days earlier, the State Duma Committee has submitted to the State Duma a bill to expand Russia's assignment to "unwanted" organizations. "These steps are part of a broader trend: attempts by Russian authorities to limit the internal information environment to reduce internal criticism and dissent. Although this trend has been observed for many years, it has intensified significantly after Russia's full -scale invasion of Russia," the Ministry of Defense said.

We will remind that in December 2023 in the GUR reported that Russian propagandists are trying to make the image of their President Vladimir Putin more "cheerful", because recently there are problems with this. On December 19, Russian President Vladimir Putin called Russia "the sole guarantor of sovereignty and integrity" of Ukraine.
