The task of Ukraine's air defense cannot be solved with the help of the US: what is the key problem - experts

According to analysts, the increase in the number of Patriot Batteries will not solve the problem of air threats. The fact is that complexes can either support Ukraine's front defense or protect its rear infrastructure. Ukraine has encountered serious challenges in the field of agitated despite the adoption of a recent assistance bill in the United States, which provides a huge investment of $ 61 billion.

The Air Defense situation cannot be resolved positively only through American systems such as Patriot, and the problem here is not in resources. How Ukrainian air defense can be reinforced is said in Defense News from May 27. The publication stated the appeal of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky to provide the Armed Forces with new Patriot batteries. According to him, Ukraine needs 25 new complexes, and now the Ukrainian air defense has only three Patriot batteries.

However, the production capabilities of Raytheon, manufacturer of Patriot systems, do not allow to provide such volume as soon as possible, and the solution of this problem is not limited to simple financial infusion. The fact is that new Patriot systems can be an expensive obligation for Ukraine and do not guarantee full security.

And the limited number and operational restrictions of Patriot systems make them unable to provide full protection of both the front and the rear infrastructure of Ukraine. The authors of the material emphasize that Ukrainian air defense systems face operational restrictions. In other words, Patriot can either support Ukraine's front -line defense or protect its rear infrastructure, but not both. In addition, complexes can still be vulnerable to Russian drones capable of acting at low altitudes.

A limiting factor for Ukraine's infrastructure is not the number of Patriot platforms, but in service with interceptors. Therefore, the complexes are most likely covered by strategic goals, and for the protection of civilians, other air defense systems, including a small distance, remedies, etc. In this aspect, additional funds provided by Germany, such as Germany, can play the role.

In this way, Berlin sends additional TRML-4D radar systems to identify threats at low altitudes, as well as the Skynex system to intercept drones. This is in addition to IRIS-T, Patriot and Styinger, which Germany has provided earlier. "The United States simply do not have the physical capacity to solve the problem of ammunition stocks in the near future.
