FPV-Drones Against Challenger 2:
Although no obvious damage to the tanks was recorded on the record, the drone operators purposefully attacked the tower and the lower front of the housing. The first blow was attached to the tank tower, which is, according to the Bulgarian Militis, one of the most vulnerable parts of Challenger 2. Despite the presence of composite and steel armor, protection of the tower is inferior to the armor of the main body.
The tower shows special vulnerability when struck at an angle, which reduces the efficiency of the armor. As the experience of hostilities in Ukraine has shown, FPV-auctions strikes are often destructive from above, because they are able to break through the protective layer, damaging optics, tower mechanisms and the main tool. The second attack was directed to the lower front of the tank housing, where there are key components such as transmission and engine.
In this area, armor is often less powerful, which makes it a potential purpose for attacks. In this case, the disruption of the transmission or engine can completely paralyze the fighting machine.
Views noted that video analysis raises questions about the choice of drone operators, since there are other, more vulnerable areas of the Challenger 2 tank, which could cause more harm: among them: experts have come to the conclusion about the need and importance of adaptation of modern armored vehicles to threats created by FPV -Drons on the battlefield.
The use of such unmanned systems demonstrates their effectiveness in the defeat of the key components of the tanks, even with a powerful armor. However, selected goals indicate insufficient tactics: more accurate strikes could cause more serious harm. Thus, the British VTT Challenger 2, despite the reputation of one of the most protected tanks in the world, faces new challenges during hostilities.
