"Want to revive the USSR": Sandu told what Russia threatens Moldova

President Maya Sandu is convinced that with Russia only misery and corruption are waiting for Moldova, so the country seeks the European Union. Russia's leadership seeks to revive the Soviet Union by annexing the free republics now, but Moldova is against such developments. The President of the country, Maya Sandu, stated in an interview with the American edition of Finantial Times.

According to her, after the collapse of the USSR, Moldova was a "buffer" between Russia and the West for a long time, but now she wants to get out of the shadows of Moscow once and for all and become part of the European Union. Moldovans see the difference between the "Russian world" and Europe thanks to the neighborhood with Romania - NATO member since 2004 and the EU since 2007.

At the same time, about 12% of Moldova's population speak Russian, and Russia plays on the feelings of Russian -speaking people. The Russians are pushed by fears that the language and traditions of these people are threatened, and Moldova can become part of Romania. Such emotions were fueled by separatists in Transnistria, where the separatists seized power with the support of the Kremlin. "They would like to revive the Soviet Union. They want to return the old times. And we do not want it.

Moldova was part of the buffer zone for 30 years, and for us it meant poverty, corruption, poor management, emigration. We want to be part of the democratic world" , - said Maya Sandu. Maya Sandu believes that the Russians will not stop in the event of a capture of Ukraine, so now only the Ukrainian army ensures the security of its state, which has a small army at its disposal.

In the first weeks of a full -scale war, more than 500,000 refugees rushed to Moldova, forcing local authorities to solve a large number of problems. She added that Russia tried to control Moldova for a long time with energy blackmail. When energy and power plant in Transnistria ceased to be a decisive argument, it began to seek other measures of influence, including political conspiracies and street protests.

According to Maya Sandu, the Kremlin wanted to recover people to Moldova from abroad so that they would ignite mass riots. "I do not consider Russia's plan realistic, but it still interferes with our actions," the Head of State said. - "There are still people who bow to Russia, but are already smaller. " At the end of March, Maya Sandu announced Russia's attempts to overthrow Moldova's power.
