"Telegram must be closed": The "Servant of the People" called for to deal with the Russian application

According to People's Deputy Nikita Potraev, in Ukraine it is necessary to develop a bill that will require social networks and platforms to establish a dialogue with the Ukrainian state. If the developers refuse, then the state will block them. The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy, Nikita Potraev, stated that Ukraine should consider closing the Telegram messenger because of threats to national security and connection with Russia.

The People's Deputy from the "servant of the people" said in an interview with "RBC-Ukraine". According to him, Ukraine has no resources and opportunities to regulate Telegram, as well as other social networks. Due to the lack of control, the only way out may be the closure of the messenger in the country, as previously done with social networks "VKontakte" and "Classmates". "What will happen if we do not pay attention to these threats - there will be no Ukraine.

Because we can not talk about any information hygiene," the People's Deputy said. Podtraev stressed that Telegram management does not enter into dialogue with the Ukrainian authorities, which makes the messenger even more dangerous. However, Ukraine has the appropriate technical capabilities to stop the application. The use of this platform by the authorities is also concerned and can cost everyone, the official says.

All because 80% of the population uses an unmodelized social network, which can be influenced by Russian special services. According to the People's Deputy, it is necessary to develop a bill that will require social networks and platforms to establish a dialogue with the Ukrainian state. In case of refusal, the state must have the right to close such platforms. It should be noted that discussions on Telegram work in Ukraine have been ongoing long ago.

The messenger himself was founded in 2013 by Russian businessman Pavel Durov, who also created the social network "VKontakte". Earlier, the Cert-UA team warned Ukrainian citizens about cybercriminals who use a new scheme to access accounts in messengers.
