The military in Sumy region stole the APC and went home: how he was punished

To spread: the serviceman stole the armored personnel carrier in Sumy region and left the military unit. He was sentenced to 7 years in prison. The Sumy District Court found a serviceman of one of the parts of the region in desertion and theft of military equipment, the State Bureau of Investigation reported. The military served as a driver of special equipment.

In January 2025, he left the military unit unauthorized: under the pretext of refueling of the armored personnel carrier, he left the APC from the territory of the part, took with him a machine gun, and headed home to Poltava region. He overcame several hundred kilometers of public roads, left the APC on the sidelines near the village and went to sleep in the forest strip. The DBR employees, together with the Military Service of Law Enforcement and SBU, detained the deserter promptly.

The stolen armored personnel carrier and weapons were returned to the military unit. The court found the military guilty of desertion and theft of military equipment committed in the conditions of martial law (Part 4 of Article 408, Part 4 of Article 410 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), and imposed a sentence in the form of 7 years of imprisonment.
