President

The most effective protection of freedom, human rights and the rule of law is to bring to justice everyone who has solved the war - the President of Ukraine at the Sakharov Prize

Thank you, Roberto! Dear President, Roberto Dear! Dear friends! I congratulate you on behalf of all our people is a great honor. I congratulate you on all those who are at war, who work for the sake of Ukraine and for the sake of freedom. For the sake of what it is impossible to imagine all of us, life, Europe. It is impossible to imagine without Ukraine and without freedom. And not just because it will be just not true.

But also because any attempt to deprive Europe of Ukraine and freedom is always a crime. And we see such a crime now - Russia's terrorist war against Ukraine and Europe. It was also in the past, when tyranny tried to conquer Ukrainians and deprive the freedom of all Europeans. But when we will win now - Ukrainians and all Europeans - we will win exactly so that there is never again attempts to deprive Europe of Ukraine and freedom.

We will win so that even efforts to apply genocide policy against our people in Ukraine and throughout Europe. We have to give - and give! - a new effective security architecture for global freedom and international order. I consider it part of our moral obligation with you. Take a look at how the Russian army comes. The invaders burn everything in front of them with artillery and rockets, bombs and drones, mines, ammunition that have not broken and stay in our land.

The invaders are destroying cities and villages and all vital infrastructure . . . So it was in Mariupol - you all saw it. So it was in Volnovas - it is another city that is completely destroyed after the Russian offensive. More than 20,000 people lived there before this war. Now there are solid ruins. The Russian army does the same with Bakhmut - another city of Donbass, from which Russian blows leave broken stones. And earlier, more than 70 thousand people lived there . . . Recently. Last year. Now - ruins.

Perhaps only after the end of this war, when we release all our land and be able to reveal all the graves of victims of Russian terror, will we be able to tell how many lives the tyranny has taken this time. Now we know thousands of the names of the dead. Unfortunately, they can be much larger.

I ask you all to honor you with a moment of silence to remember all Ukrainians, all Ukrainian women, all adults and children, all military, all civilians whose lives were taken away by this shameful war! Thank you very much! Dear friends! It is necessary to act now without waiting for the end of the war to hold everyone who has solved it, and to prevent any repetition of aggression.

It will be the most effective protection of freedom, human rights, the rule of law and other of our common values with you, which embodies, in particular, this distinction of the European Parliament - the Sakharov Prize. I am grateful to anyone who investigates and helps to investigate the crimes of the invaders in Ukraine who is looking for information about Russian murderers and terrorists.

I am grateful to the International Criminal Court, which works closely with Ukrainian prosecutors and has a clear intention to exercise justice on the occupiers in our country. And I am grateful to all leaders and states, all politicians and international organizations who work with us and make every effort to create a tribunal about Russia's aggression against Ukraine. I urge all of you, your parties and states to effectively support this work! The tribunal must work.

The European Parliament has already supported this idea. It is necessary to put it in reality as soon as possible. In particular, the adoption of a separate resolution of the European Parliament to support the creation of the Tribunal, through your support and support by your countries with the appropriate UN General Assembly resolution.

The city and villages destroyed by Russia, destroyed fates, broken and shot lives should be reflected in the sentences not only for those who did it all directly, but also in the sentences to those who organized and launched this aggression. And when the principle of inevitability of punishment works on the crime of aggression against Ukraine, we can make the appropriate institutional basis of justice constant.

When any potential aggressor knows that punishment for a criminal war is inevitable, it will be the most effective instrument of war prevention. And one more. Historical responsibility. Evil always has a motive to return when the story of evil is not fully written. Dear MPs! I know that tomorrow you will consider the issue of recognition by the genocide of the Holodomor crime against the Ukrainian people. And I urge you to support such recognition by the maximum of the vote to establish justice.

Europe should give the most signal that in the history of tragedies on our continent, in the history of crimes against humanity and humanity committed on our land with you, there will be no gap.
