Shahheda Destroyer: General Atomics showed MQ-9b drone with laser weapons
The General Atomics booth at Sea Air Space was represented by MQ-9 with a laser module under a wing shooting several kicicadze drones, similar to Shakhda, protecting the ship in the sea. It is not yet known when new weapons can be applied in practice. The stronger the beam system, the more clogged the cooling system is required due to the greater amount of heat that is released, which increases the total weight.
However, under the wing of the drone is a block with a 25-kilowatted laser with a distributed reinforcement and a rechargeable system of high power density. The system will exert less load on the aircraft than other laser technologies. It also eliminates the need to combine several rays of light, as is needed in a fiber laser. According to Naval News, weapons capacity can be increased to 300 kilowatts. Weapons can shoot both implicit and continuous beam.
The company already has experience in working with military lasers. In 2021, the General Atomics and Boeing Groups received a contract for the US Army of a solid -state high -energy laser system with a distributed strengthening and capacity of 300 kilowatts. A year later, the company demonstrated a system of air-air-air-called Laser Airborne Communication-12 Terminal.
