War of "Russian" hackers: why Russian-speaking cyber groups attack each other

Now cybercriminals do not fight together, but with each other on each of the opposing parties. The invasion of Ukraine by Russia has broken friendly relationships between different hackers. This conflict was especially devastating in the so -called hacker brotherhood, writes The Register. Last year, many alliances have broken up or became inactive, but the highest degree of tension is observed among Russian -speaking hacker groups.

The focus publishes details of the decay and further confrontation of hackers. Until February 24, 2022, the so -called "brotherhood" appeared in Darknet and Hacker community, which combined Russian -speaking hackers from the former USSR republics. In exchange for mutually beneficial cooperation, despite the annexation of Crimea, the support of separatists in the Donbass, the attack on Georgia and other conflicts, they agreed to act together and share hacker experiences.

The community included various groups from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, the Baltic countries, the South Caucasus and Central Asia. Among them are known as: Conti, Alphv (Blackcat), Lockbit, Stormous and many others. The main condition of the community was to refrain from attacks on the organizations and citizens of the participating countries.

Of course, internal conflicts for political reasons occurred before the war, but the point of boiling was February 24, 2022, when Russian troops invaded the territory of Ukraine. There is no interest in personal enrichment through cooperation with representatives of the aggressor country, could not play a conciliation role, especially since Russian-speaking hackers from our country have declared support for Ukraine.

At the same time, the Russian cybersea of Konti's extortionists spoke in support of the Kremlin and declared "the full support of the Russian government", promising to use "all possible resources to strike in response to the critical infrastructure of Ukraine. " "Brotherhood" began to split into the eyes and significantly reduced the activity of joint criminal transactions on the Internet - hackers began to fight with each other, - the material reads.

Just a few days after the start of the war, the Ukrainian cybercrime experts became accessible to the internal FTI files. They were probably fused by Ukrainian hackers who were part of the Brotherhood, - journalists write. However, only hacker tools and hackers from Conti were fused, but the cybercrime from Alphv and Lockbit was not injured, apparently they declared neutral in time, safety experts say.

However, when burning, the members of the Brotherhood began to act alone, and they included other unions that represent the warring countries. Experts say that some of the groups even began to cooperate with public movements on mutual confrontation between cyberattacks or attacks on the enemy's IT infrastructure. Cyberexers believe that the Killnet pro -Russian group is the result of the collapse of the Great Brotherhood.

Killnet includes experts, Anonymous Russia, Anonymous Sudan, Infinity Hackers and some others. They are responsible for half of all pro -Russian hacker activity and cyberattacks for US, Germany, Lithuania and other countries that support Ukraine. Cyberexers believe that 2023 will change nothing in the relationships of hacker groups from Russia and Ukraine. They will still fight each other: some attack, while others help to defend themselves.

But Russia, which, as the deputy of the State Duma Oleksandr Hinstein stated, considers the possibility of providing legal immunity to "hackers in favor of Russia". This may provoke a group from neutral countries to stand on the parties of the Russian Federation or attract local hackers to active cyberwar. As a result, cybersecurity experts point out that the Hacker Brotherhood became another victim of Russia's aggression against Ukraine. But no one will regret this victim.
