Boeing MH17 knocked down Russia: now the ECtHR decision will be the basis for new accusations of the aggressor country

The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) recognized Russia as responsible for the beat of Boeing over the Donetsk region of 2014. Lawyer Maxim Kostecki considers this decision unprecedented and is convinced that it creates the foundation for further accusations of Russia in order. The ECtHR recognized the responsibility of the Russian Federation for the beat of the passenger plane of the MH17 flight in 2014 and for violation of human rights in the territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

This is the first and therefore such an important decision of the International Court of Justice to hold the aggressor state for committing crimes. It will become a legal basis and foundation for the following. The court stressed that Russia's actions in Ukraine are unprecedented in the history of the Council of Europe.

In his opinion, the nature and scale of violence, as well as the ominous statements of the leadership of the respondent state regarding the statehood of Ukraine, its independence and the right to exist, pose a threat to peaceful coexistence in Europe and are aimed at undermining the foundations of democracy on which the Council of Europe and its Member States are founded. The ECtHR has obliged Russia: justice may be slow, but it is sure to squeeze Russia in its grips.
