European countries and the United States have sent an IOC letter: they are not asked to be allowed on the 2024 Olympics
Among the countries that opposed the participation in the Olympic Games of the Russian Federation and Belarus, through the war in Ukraine, there were: ready to support the boycott of the aggressor country Poland, Latvia, Lithuania and Denmark. In a letter, representatives urge the Committee to explain the definition of neutrality against athletes from Russia and Belarus.
"Our common position has always been inadmissible for national discrimination, but these concerns must be resolved within the IOC," the letter reads. Representatives of the signatory countries also clarified that they would be worried about close ties between Russian athletes and the armed forces that invaded Ukraine.
In addition, they expressed the opinion that, as long as the issue that worries them is not resolved, the athletes of the representatives of the Russian Federation and Belarus should not be admitted to international competitions.
The International Olympic Committee, for its part, is trying to find a way to allow Russians to the Olympics, citing the opinion of the UN experts on human rights, who believe that Russians and Belarusians should not be discriminated against only because of their passports. We will remind, on February 7, Ms. Paris, Ann Idalgo said that she did not want Russian athletes to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games.
Earlier, the mayor of the capital of France adhered to a different position and argued that athletes could not be deprived of the opportunity to participate in competitions. No matter where they are. Focus also wrote that in early February, the UN was urged to allow Russian athletes to the Olympics.
