Anxiety in the Belgorod region: Russian power does not know how to respond to RDC and LSR raids - ISW

The Institute of War Study indicates that local officials clearly do not coordinate actions with the Russian Defense Ministry to reflect the pressure of Russian volunteers. Moscow became fascinated by the inverse, and there are no real steps to protect the border areas from the attacks. The Russian authorities do not agree and do not know how to respond to attacks on the Belgorod region. This is stated in the report of the American Institute of War Study (ISW) of June 4.

The fighters of the Russian Volunteer Corps (RDC) and the Legion "Freedom of Russia" (LSR) made a new raid in the Belgorod region on June 4. They continue to operate in the region, experts said. Further in ISW they drew attention to the message of the governor of Belgorod region Vyacheslav Gladkov about fighting in the new Tavolzhanka.

And in the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation declared the retreat of the guerrillas due to the impact of units of the Western military district and the border service. Gladkov responded to the request of the RDC and the LSR about the exchange of Russian prisoners of war. At first, the official agreed to meet, but for some time refused.

"The contradictory answers of the authorities and new reports of raids in the Belgorod region say that the Russian leadership did not decide how to respond to all this. Perhaps the Ministry of Defense and Gladkov do not coordinate actions," - the experts added. Moscow is focused on an information background, but there is no real steps to prevent attacks on the border areas of Russia, the report says.

According to ISW estimates, the raids and shelling of the Belgorod region are increasingly subject to criticism of Russia's military leadership. This is actively used by the head of the Wagner PEC group Yevgeny Prigogin. "He criticizes the Ministry of Defense, emphasizing the absence of the response of Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoig, Chief of the General Staff of Land Forces Alexander Lapin and the Chief of General Staff of the Russian Federation Valery Gerasimov," the institute said.

Prigogine also replied with a sarcastic statement that Russia has a problem with people who have eggs. And among the ultra -partners, they do not approve of Gladkov's actions for his willingness to negotiate with the RDC and the LSR, as well as the inability to consistently inform the public about the situation in the Belgorod region, ISW said.
