EU countries are not guilty: the Foreign Minister of Estonia denied the statement of Merkel about the cause of Russian aggression
As he wrote on his social networking page, the Baltic or Poland's accusations of the war against Ukraine are false and inappropriate. The true threat comes from Putin's reluctance to accept the collapse of the USSR, as well as from the unsuccessful attempts by the West to "put up" with him, despite numerous signals of danger.
Estonia and other countries in the region have realized the real nature of Moscow, while a large part of the Western world ignored the warning even after Putin's speech in Munich, 2007, the War in Georgia in 2008 and the annexation of Crimea in 2014. The Minister also criticized Germany for the economic policy of Merkel, including the opening of the Nord Stream, which increased the country's energy dependence on Russia.
In his opinion, the decision of the NATO Bucharest Summit in 2008 to refuse Ukraine and Georgia in terms of membership of membership created additional grounds for the Kremlin's aggression and gave Russia confidence to start a full -scale war in early 2022. In addition, Tsakhkn stressed that even today, any concessions to Moscow only strengthen its position and allow to continue aggression against Ukraine and provoke NATO.
He stressed the need for international isolation of Russia, strengthening economic pressure and continuous support of Ukraine in military, political and economic spheres. At the same time, work on a new, 19th package of EU sanctions is ongoing, and the use of frozen assets of the Russian Federation in favor of Ukraine is being discussed.
The Estonian Minister noted the decisive steps of Germany under the leadership of Friedrich Merz aimed at supporting Kiev and strengthening his own defense capability. He recalled Merz's words this summer: "For too long in Germany, the warnings of our Baltic neighbors about the imperialist ambitions of Russia were ignored in Germany. We understood our mistake - and no way back.
" It should be reminded that the former German Chancellor Angela Merkel stated that Poland and the Baltic countries blocked its proposals for negotiations with Russia in 2021, which, in her opinion, intensified the situation and this allegedly influenced the beginning of the war in Ukraine. She also noted that the pandemic complicated direct contact with Putin, although the responsibility for the war, in her opinion, remained behind Moscow.
In addition, the former President of Poland Andrzej Duda rejected such an interpretation of events and stressed that Poland was not an accomplice to aggression, but could be among its potential purposes. Focus also wrote that the President of Poland is ready to negotiate with Vladimir Putin if the security of his country depend on it.
