The Armed Forces are holding Abrams tanks and new Leopard away from the front, the US is changing the strategy - WSJ
The role of drones on the battlefield has increased, so the armies are changing strategies - and use additional protection, the publication is noted. According to the publication, the fighting in Ukraine showed that the "kings of the Field of Battle" of the past years is now easy to detect and attack cheap drones. For this reason, dozens of major combat tanks of the West countries were rarely involved in combat clashes, some of them were injured or destroyed/captured.
Today, Ukraine and the Russian Federation add their means of searching and suppressing drones. The design of armored vehicles changes - to increase maneuverability. "In the short term, it is extremely necessary to make changes to preserve our armored units," said General James Rayne, commander of the Army Futures Command unit, which is responsible for the technological support of US Land Forces.
The authors of the publication provide OSINT research data from the Dutch Oryx organization that one fifth of all Abrams tanks received by Ukraine have already been destroyed and others are rarely used. According to journalists, two -thirds of the latest Leopard models were destroyed or damaged. The driver of one of the Armed Forces tanks said that it is worth going on the road, as a tank immediately notices the drone - the shelling is followed, mortars, PTRK, UAV, controlled airbags.
