EU on December 18 will approve a new package of sanctions against the Russian Federation: what will go there

The process of approval of the 12th Package of Sanctions was complicated by Austria, which demanded that Ukraine exclude Raiffeisen Bank International from the list of "International Sponsors of War". On Monday, December 18, a brief adoption procedure will be held and further publication of the 12th EU sanctions package against Russia. Politico writes about it. The publication emphasizes that the process of approving this block of sanctions has complicated Austria.

She expressed her objections and expected Ukraine to exclude the Austrian Raiffeisen Bank International from the list of "International Sponsors of War". However, on Saturday, December 16, Ukraine did so at the time of negotiations with the European Commission, although this bank continues to work in Russia, in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine and Syria.

Therefore, in February 2023, the US foreign asset control department began investigating Raiffeisen Bank operations in these regions. From January 1, 2024, a ban on importing Russian non -industrial diamonds with a gradual ban on diamond imports from third countries since March 1 has been introduced. In addition, it is expected to increase the limit of prices for Russian oil. Russian aluminum will also be banned for the first time - it is forbidden to import wire, foil, pipes and tubes.

At the same time, the industry of European countries lobbies the expansion of the range of these products, since only 15% of imports fall under sanctions. The package has also been added to prevent the purchase of dual -use goods by Russia. EU companies will force their counterparties for certain products to sign contracts that prohibit re -export to Russia. At the same time, weakening of control over imports of luxury goods is expected.
