Medium -range argument: which missiles besides Tomahawk can pass NATO countries (photo)

The Alliance was offered to transfer medium -range missiles to Ukraine that could hit Russian facilities up to 1000 km. However, from European countries, only Turkey has such weapons. On November 25, the NATO Parliamentary Assembly has adopted resolution No. 494 in the Canadian Montreal, which contains important provisions concerning the counteraction of aggression of the Russian Federation.

Among other things, the resolution proposes to provide Ukraine with "all means, including medium -range missiles for self -defense. " What kind of weapons the Defense Express reviewers told. One of the key points of the resolution calls for the efforts to activate Ukraine as soon as possible as the 33rd member. In this case, the document refers to Article 51 of the UN Charter, confirming the right of Ukraine to strike in the territory of the aggressor.

However, one important nuance should be taken into account, watchmakers write. The fact is that despite such bold rhetoric, the NATO Parliamentary Assembly is not the Alliance Governance. It is an independent inter -parliamentary structure that provides recommendations and consultations. But such statements are an important signal and a diplomatic tool for Ukraine. Currently, medium -range missiles in NATO stand out: Tomahawk.

These winged missiles are in service with the United States and the United Kingdom. The latter have been ordered 214 rockets since 1995, but much of them has already been used. At the same time, potential future Tomahawk operators, such as Australia and Japan, are not NATO members. AGM-158 JASSM (ER). It is an American rocket up to 900 km, which can be transferred to Ukraine.

However, the political situation in the United States, which is related to the transition period, complicates decision -making. MDCN (France). The French fleet has a limited number of these maritime rockets, which reaches 1000 km. MDCN is based on SCalp with a weight of a warhead of 250 kg and is an analogue of Tomahawk.

What rockets can be counted to Ukraine - this issue remains open, but the authors of the material noted that the only European country of NATO, which has more than 300 km, is Turkey. In the 1990s, Ankara, working with China, began production of B-611 ballistic missiles known as J-600t Yıldırım. Subsequently, Turkey developed more modern complexes, including Tayfun with a range of more than 500 km and a project of its improved version with a range up to 1000 km.
