The EU is discussing a prohibition on the issuance of Schengen visas to the Russians

The issue of closing the Schengen area for Russian citizens for discussion was issued by several EU countries, the German government reported. The authorities of the EU countries discusses the idea of introducing a ban on the issuance of Schengen visas to citizens of the Russian Federation within the new package of sanctions on the Russian Russia. This was stated at a briefing by the official representative of the German government Steffen Gebestrytit, reports the Russian Agency "Ria News".

"(Proposal) is put forward by some countries in the EU, it is discussed. Now it must be discussed - both in the federal government and in Europe," said Hebbestyt, adding that he could not report the intermediate results of the discussion. Answering the journalists whether the German Chancellor Olaf Scholz was supported, the government spokesman said that he could not report such information.

At the same time, the Swedish government did not exclude the termination of visas to the Russians unilaterally or with the EU, Dagens Industri reported, citing Minister of Migration Minister Anders Igman. For his part, journalist Ricard Josvyak evaluated the possibility of introducing a prohibition on the issuance of Schengen visas to citizens of the Russian Federation as unlikely, however, in his opinion, "everything is possible".

The relevant issue will be discussed at the end of August at the EU meeting in Prague, he said. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba has urged all EU countries and the Great Seven to stop issuing visas to Russian citizens. "The Russians overwhelmingly support the war in Ukraine. They must be deprived of the right to cross international borders until they learn to respect them," the diplomat wrote.
