"Huge load": about 500,000 IDPs moved to Kharkiv during the war - Vereshchuk

According to the Ministry of Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories, international partners should take into account the fact that displaced persons in Kharkiv have not only lost everything because of war but also live under constant shelling. As of early 2024, Kharkiv lives about 500,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs), which can create additional load on the city.

This was stated by Viceremier-Minister on Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine Irina Vereshchuk on the air of the TV channel "Mam-Ukraine" on January 4. According to her, residents of Kharkiv region, who did not want to leave the borders of their native region, moved to the regional center. Accordingly, Kharkiv's population has increased greatly.

"This is a huge load: on the one hand, Kharkiv has become a millionaire, and on the other - in the future it suffers from shelling. And I always ask all the internationalists to consider it, IDPs in Uzhgorod and Lviv - of course they need help, but IDPs in Kharkiv is not all that everything They have lost, live in dormitories and even under such daily shelling, " - said Irina Vereshchuk. Separately, the topic of payments for displaced persons was broken.

In 2023, the state allocated 74 billion hryvnias for internally displaced persons. This is the second largest program after payments for the military and everything goes to the Ukrainian economy and works for the country. "IDP payments are the starting mechanism of our economy. People have not taken out this money into offshore, they did not put them on deposits.

They bought the most necessary: bread, medicines, clothing, and it went into the economy of the state," - continued Irina Vereshchuk. We will remind, on January 3 it was reported that 2 million Ukrainian displaced persons can be left without payments, but everything may remain in their place. According to Irina Vereshchuk, the President and the Prime Minister do not support the idea of cancellation of payments. Currently, the state convinces the parter not to reduce financial support.
