Tired of the war: public opinion has changed in the Russian Federation on the eve of the presidential election - ISW

According to polls, on the eve of the election of the head of the state, most Russians support the cessation of war. Meanwhile, the authorities intensify control of the information space to reduce the "fakes" of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. In Russia, fewer residents on the eve of the presidential election support the continuation of the war in Ukraine. However, because of Putin's internal political support, this mood of Russians has not yet become an anti -war political position.

About it reports the Institute of War Study (ISW) in its summary on January 8. Russian Merit Media, referring to the data of social inquiries and its sources in the Kremlin, writes that for the first time more Russians support the withdrawal of the Russian army from the territory of Ukraine "without achieving goals". In particular, most Russian citizens supported the continuation of the war in Ukraine.

Sources in the administration of the President of Russia were noted by the Russian edition, referring to the data paid by the Kremlin of the poll that continue the war support less than 50% of Russian citizens. Peace negotiations are supported by 30% of people. According to the sociological organization "Chronicle", from the beginning of last year to October from 22% to 12% decreased the number of Russians who support the war.

These are those people who support the presence of the Russian military in Ukraine before "achieving their military goals". Also, the number of Russians who support Russia with their troops without achieving "military goals" - 40% of those polled has not changed over the past year. Meanwhile, the sociological organization "Levada-Center" was reported at the end of October that peace talks support 55% of the Russians surveyed, and the continuation of the war-38%.

A fresh survey published by Levada-Center on December 5 shows that Russian residents are wondering about the end of the war, its results, mobilization and peace prospects, according to the increase in the end of the war. Meanwhile, Russian authorities are trying to strengthen their control over the information space before the presidential election.

Russian media TASS reported that the Russian Federation has prepared a bill, the adoption of which will allow to block "illegal content" on the Internet. It is planned that they will do this with the help of a specialized information system. The Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation says that there were already 555 requirements for blocking like fakes that discredit the Russian army and Russian power.

The Institute of War Study says that the Russian authorities have declared blocking or removing more than 69,000 resources. We will remind, according to the survey of the Russian Field, published in November 2023, most Russians are concerned about the number of casualties because of the war in Ukraine. In particular, one in third for the same reason is worried about their well -being.
