The future has already come: the US Army will receive new microwave weapons against UAV
In particular, the developers took into account the experience of using drones during the Russo-Ukrainian War. "Just look at the numbers, and here are the lessons learned from Ukraine. This is the future that we have talked so much about today, and we have technologies to defend ourselves," said Epirus CEO Andy Lower.
According to the head of the manufacturer, earlier the best solution against drones was considered to be radio-electronic fight (HRB), but now radio electronic suppression was at best partially effective. Many soldiers in Ukraine wear shotguns to protect themselves from FPV-aules, but even the best shooters will be difficult to protect themselves from a simultaneous attack of more than fifty UAVs. The Exdecs system is created for such cases.
It is reported that Exdecs can destroy both individual drones and large switches. These weapons have some resemblance to laser installations, but the laser focuses its energy at a small point, and microwave weapons can emit a wide field of energy that disables all electronics inside the drones. The main advantage of Exdecs is the manufacturer's efficiency. One shot costs just five cents.
As noted in the edition, the previous model of Epirus's energy weapons was "tiny" compared to a similar device of competitors. Thanks to compact solid -state electronics, the Exdecs system was even smaller. This is important because marines need a lightweight installation that can be towed by standard vehicles for maximum mobility.
"Solid-state, software-kept, long-pulled powerful microwave oven-what we do in Epirus has demonstrated efficiency against the spectrum of electronic threats, including goals outside drones. Theoretically, everything that has an electronic impulse will be vulnerable to Epirus HPM", - says Andy Lower. According to the publication, the first Exdecs system will be received by the end of this year.
The weapon will be integrated with the US Marine Corps Management and Control System for field experiments and "multi -platform testing in expeditionary scenarios". It should be reminded that in January it was reported that Raytheon and the US Air Force Research Laboratory completed the field tests of the microwave system of neutralizing Chimera air goals. In addition, in May it became known that in the UK there were tests of mobile weapons (DEW) at the Ealing project.
